Ben Craven (Ben Craven Music) est ce compositeur australien talentueux, connu grâce à Roger Dean pour la pochette de 2011. Du rock prog symphonique où il cite lui-même Focus, Caravan, Nektar, Can, Yes, Genesis et Pink Floyd. Ce 5e album se compose de deux longs titres avec arrangements orchestraux cinématiques, ponctués de chant sur la lutte Bien-Mal et de séquences guitare émotives; du prog épique, bouleversant.
«Die Before You Wake» pour la baffe musicale, 7 titres flirtant avec le symphonisme cinématique à la mode actuellement, envolée classique à la Orff; un air au refrain aérien avec chœurs, un riff rappelant celui du célèbre «Kashmir», un break guitare hackettien; break progressiste art-rock planant, nuageux dans sa conception mélodique, solo gilmourien; ça monte encore plus haut aux 11 min avant le retour du couplet, du solo synthé à la Banks où les réminiscences suintent de toute part. Le final bluesy floydien de «The Dark Side» avec une guitare spleen, émouvante et chaleureuse; on est loin des tourments terrestres.
«Amnis Flows Aeternum» et 12 tiroirs autour de l’éternité, intro digne d’un Asia «Aqua», des claviers 70’s inquiétants, film d’espionnage plongeant dans ce genre cinématique fusionnant. Ça dévale d’un coup sur une basse squirienne, le solo guitare aigu, vintage et sombre à la fois avec un trémolo singulier; un orchestral ralentit le temps avant de repartir et le 2e «Amnis» chanté apparaît; crescendo amenant la musique à l’état d’art éclairant l’émotion symphonique en profondeur. Le dernier tiers repart sur les chœurs, une expérience majestueuse faisant oublier le temps.
