English translation (Google):

BEN CRAVEN, Australian by birth, you will wonder who makes here an Australian progressive music, sharing place with the best classics and also recently ornate, because the fact is that deserve it, and so this gem of the album ” Great and Terrible Potions. ”
It was impossible that this album went unnoticed for two reasons, musical talent and creative genius worthy CRAVEN of the largest and second the cover design by the master ROGER DEAN, well known in the musical world for his works of art posters and album covers for musicians, bands like YES, ASIA, Uriah Heep, GENTLE GIANT, etc. Light is an extra plus for this record, the icing on the cake. I have to admit that I noticed on this album by its cover.

The album was released in 2011, memorable album with dense and complex in the likeness of the great classics, PINK FLOYD, YES compositions, but with modern touches and others like SPOCK`S BEARD, makes this disc has good balance and maturity. By the way by himself it stew and ate it, I do not use band for recording, composition, mixtures and even promotion, bone a band of one man (guitar, bass, keyboards, vocals …), it is logical work had it in the head years and who better than him to capture perfectly what he had in his mind.

Let ‘s put the vinyl on the plate and start listening to good music, we found a movie ticket, ” Diabolique ” can not miss a gem like this a good overture, it is known to be very follower of the great film composers, doors opening, footsteps, is laconic but powerful. The entrance piano gives us the feeling of listening to some TUBULAR BELLS MIKE Oldfield followed by a riff on the orchestration where stands the Hammond organ with a dramatic sound and played masterfully, reminds me of the unforgettable JON LORD, with those clicks and distortions of which he was a master. The accumulation of instruments and chords is wonderful.

Without our break we dive into ” Nobody Dies Forever part 1 “, started with a lot of ambient sound and guitar hit with chords ascending, like a movie spy, voice CRAVEN hear choppy but well modulated, the truth is that when I heard this wonderful piece of melodic rock I am transported to the 70s, especially to hear that final guitar which reminded me STEVE HACKETT.

How wonderful and still is, ” Aquamarine ” is a plethora instrumental piece, beautiful tapestries that form a good instrumental base with an angelic atmosphere church organ giving a sense of suspense, distant sounds, a chorus and a guitar that transform in a Floydian allegory as GILMOUR itself. Several layers are denoted on keyboards creating a haunting and endearing universe is epic.

” Ready To Lose “, starts with a style acoustic guitar STEVE HOWE, when you hear this song several times you realize the variety of mixed styles, we passed a certain blues something sour to another so different and with the same style SPOCK’ S BEARD, even dares passing his voice synthesizer, the end is a demonstration of virtuosity with the fluctuating electric guitar in pure neo-progressive.

” The Conjurer ” theme dedicated to the late RICHARD WRIGHT, is a fitting tribute to this magnificent piece of piano recalling Great Gig In The Sky , really up to half of the song is a carbon copy to PINK FLOYD and guitar with the essence GILMOUR .

” No Specific Harm ” is the longest composition and which has more progressive influences, note that it is a great film arranger. The start could not be more promising with an inevitable guitar to GILMOUR, taste evidenced in the Middle East with a comparison with Bible stories in points, with a dramatic and mysterious section on keyboards, offset by soft vocal passages, piano and acoustic guitar. The end I like the majesty in sweeps keyboard and culmination of a slide guitar solo uphill.

” Solace ” return to the unblemished record on acoustic guitar, a short but beautiful song, with romantic passages is the calm after the storm the previous topic, but not for this reason lose the harmonious structure of the album.

” Nobody Dies Forever Part 2 ” it is a terse repetition of the first part, maintaining their influence on the space rock, trasladándote a naive and intangible world.

” Great & Terrible Potions , ” beginning with a Floydian ballad with an evocative voice and a decent piano RICHARD WRIGHT, is a festival of symphonic rock with layers of piano, synthesizers and guitar, back again synthesized choirs and a large orchestral pomposity. The instrumental piece grows dramatically with the addition of powerful bass, drums and organ. And the door closed and with her this little gem.

What I like about this album is the amalgam of musical tastes with very clear to classical influences, it seems to have reached a new star in the firmament of symphonic neo-progressive.
