Craven, Ben – Last Chance To Hear
Author: Artur Chachlowski
05/11/2016.
Ben Craven is a talented multi-instrumentalist, whom we met in the Little Lexicon with two presented in our motherboards: published under the banner of Tunisia “Two False Idols” and the solo “Great & Terrible Potions” . In our małoleksykonowych texts devoted to these two albums you will find detailed information about the Australian artist, but today we will focus on his latest album entitled “Last Chance To Hear”.

Craven is a true “do it yourself man.” Make records in their own studio, alone, alone serving all (!) Instruments and singing. On the “Last Chance To Hear” singing is not much, because you can hear it in only three of the ten songs fill this release, with this, however, provided that one of them – “Spy In The Sky Part 3” – vocally, in the form of reciting shall be granted the famous Hollywood actor known for, among others, from the TV series “Star Trek,” William Shatner (for his album “Ponder The Mystery,” we wrote in our magazine in 2013). So for the most part, “Last Chance To Hear” is an instrumental album.

And what is the music on the CD “Last Chance To Hear”? Ten recordings, which are publishing program is grouped in two pięcioutworowe suites. They last after 22-23 minutes, and the cover is clearly underlined in this way that the first five creates an imaginary “Side One”, and the remaining five – “Side Two”. Probably for the treatment Craven wanted to refer to the tradition of vinyl records, and thus the good times for this kind of music: mature, full of emotion and full of great sounds wonderful sounds of the track, while listening you can experience many emotions. It is in this music a hint of nostalgia for bygone times, a golden era for the ambitious music projects, which appeared on the unforgettable day of great albums. And that’s what this album, all this tells us his illustrative music of Ben Craven: about dying music industry, with devastating plate format streaming portals, but also and the fact that we should not give up, just need to do their own thing. Ben does just that. And it does so extremely well, because his most recent album is something extraordinary beauty. Much to her good art rock, a little jazz, a little pinkfloydowskich climates (fantastic guitar solos performed on a Hawaiian guitar), a hint of the spirit of creativity trio ELP (especially heard in the song “Revenge Of Dr. Komodo ‘), there are also some neat piosenkowych tracks (” Last Chance To Hear Part 1, “” The Remarkable Man “) and a pinch of nocturnal poetry (piano song” Mortal Remains “).

As a complement to the music of Ben Craven for a fabulously colorful, fold into three parts digipack joined yet Mini Poster and … additional DVD, where you can find music videos for four songs, as well as the video “On The Set With Ben Craven” in the style of “the making of “from which you can learn about the platform created by Craven TuneLeak music, his musical fascinations and their evolution, and about his plans for the future.

Ben Craven to utalentowany multiinstrumentalista, którego poznaliśmy w Małym Leksykonie dzięki dwóm prezentowanym u nas płytom: wydanej pod szyldem Tunisia „Two False Idols” oraz solowej „Great & Terrible Potions”.

Craven to prawdziwy „do it yourself man”.

Ben właśnie to robi. I czyni to wyjątkowo dobrze, bo jego najnowsza płyta to rzecz nieprzeciętnej urody. Dużo na niej dobrego art rocka, trochę jazzu, odrobina pinkfloydowskich klimatów (fantastyczne sola gitarowe wykonywane na gitarze hawajskiej), nutka ducha twórczości tria ELP (szczególnie słyszalna w utworze „Revenge Of Dr. Komodo”), jest też kilka zgrabnych piosenkowych utworów („Last Chance To Hear Part 1”, „The Remarkable Man”) oraz szczypta nokturnowej liryki (fortepianowy utwór „Mortal Remains”).

Jako uzupełnienie samej muzyki Ben Craven do bajecznie kolorowego, rozkładanego na trzy części digipaka dołączył jeszcze miniplakat oraz… dodatkowy dysk DVD, na którym można znaleźć teledyski do czterech utworów, a także filmik „On The Set With Ben Craven” utrzymany w stylu „the making of”, z którego można dowiedzieć się o utworzonej przez Cravena platformie muzycznej TuneLeak, o jego muzycznych fascynacjach i ich ewolucji oraz o jego planach na przyszłość.
